Relief & Recovery: Reiki-Infused Magnesium Lotion
BORN from a Lifetime of Chronic Pain, Crafted for Quick Relief & Lasting Recovery
Relief & Recovery, part of the BORN Collection, is a tribute to those of us who refuse to let pain rule our lives.
An organic plant-powered formula infused with magnesium oil and scientifically proven botanicals to target pain, inflammation, muscle soreness, and restless legs while nourishing the skin and supporting natural healing.
Packed with Powerful Plant Ingredients for Deep Relief
Handcrafted from a nourishing base of whipped African shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, hemp seed oil, magnesium chloride oil, and 100% pure, therapeutic-grade organic essential oils, this lotion delivers targeted, localized support for tired muscles and joints—without synthetic fragrances, fillers, or harsh chemicals. Here’s a breakdown of each carefully chosen ingredient:
Whipped, Pure African Shea Butter: Rich in anti-inflammatory properties, shea butter not only deeply moisturizes but also helps reduce swelling and pain in joints and muscles.
Beeswax: Forms a natural protective barrier that locks in moisture while allowing the skin to breathe, supports healing, offers mild antimicrobial benefits, and helps deliver magnesium and botanicals effectively for targeted pain relief. Beeswax is also a natural thickener and structuring agent, giving the lotion a pleasant texture and thermal stability.
Coconut & Hemp Seed Oils: Both oils are known for their skin-penetrating abilities, allowing essential oils to absorb more effectively. Hemp seed oil is particularly valued for its ability to reduce inflammation and pain due to its omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Magnesium Chloride Oil: Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a key role in muscle relaxation, nerve function, and inflammation regulation. When applied topically, magnesium oil is absorbed through the skin, helping ease muscle tension, reduce cramping, and calm overactive nerves. Research shows magnesium may support healthy circulation, aid in reducing pain perception, and promote faster recovery from physical stress. Each 4-oz jar contains 1,333 mg of magnesium, offering targeted, localized relief where it’s needed most.
A 2015 study found that application of magnesium chloride on the arms and legs of people with fibromyalgia helped reduce symptoms, including pain.
Muscle Aid Essential Oil Blend: A Plant Therapy blend combining Wintergreen, Camphor, and Scots Pine for potent pain relief and healing. Wintergreen, rich in natural salicylates, acts like aspirin to ease muscle and joint discomfort, while Camphor provides a cooling effect to reduce pain and inflammation. Scots Pine improves circulation, alleviating stiffness and promoting faster recovery, offering both immediate relief and long-term protection from injury.
Clove Essential Oil: Warm and invigorating with powerful anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and antimicrobial properties. Rich in eugenol, a compound extensively studied for its ability to ease pain and reduce inflammation, clove oil calms tense muscles, soothes joint discomfort, and supports the body’s natural healing response.
Fun Fact! Research shows that clove oil inhibits inflammatory markers in human skin cells and demonstrates pain-relieving effects comparable to topical diclofenac (Volteran) gels in preclinical studies (Dipti et al., 2018). Its mild local-anesthetic qualities make it especially effective for easing sore, overworked muscles and promoting deep comfort (Uthirapathy, 2023).
Frankincense Essential Oil: Promotes faster healing by reducing inflammation and stimulating circulation, especially in cases of arthritis and chronic pain.
Lavender Essential Oil: Clinically proven to relieve pain and inflammation. A 2015 study confirmed lavender:
Significantly reduced inflammation by limiting swelling and leukocyte migration—two key processes in inflammatory response.
Reduced both early and late phases of pain, meaning it helps with both immediate discomfort and ongoing, persistent pain.
Antioxidant effects help neutralize free radicals, supporting faster healing and tissue repair.
(Silva et al., 2015). Read the research here.
Copaiba Essential Oil: One of nature's most powerful anti-inflammatories, proven to help reduce chronic pain and promote healing in sore, overworked muscles (Herbert et al., 2017).
Peppermint Essential Oil: Its high menthol content provides an instant cooling sensation, known to alleviate sore muscles and joint pain. Studies show peppermint oil can reduce pain associated with conditions such as tension headaches and muscle strains.
Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Helps reduce muscle spasms, ease joint pain, and improve circulation—delivering a gentle warming effect that supports relief and recovery. A 2024 review of clinical studies (Stone & Tran) highlighted eucalyptus oil’s ability to:
Effectively reduce pain across a range of acute and chronic conditions
Decrease reliance on pharmaceutical pain medications
Enhance the benefits of complementary therapies like massage and acupuncture
Chamomile Essential Oil: Prized for its anti-inflammatory properties, chamomile eases pain, reduces muscle spasms, and soothes tension.
A 2015 randomized controlled clinical trial demonstrated chamomile essential oil significantly reduced the need for acetaminophen (P = 0.001) compared with diclofenac (Volteran) and placebo in patients with knee osteoarthritis and showed improvements in stiffness and physical function (Shoara et al., 2015).
Lemongrass Essential Oil: Research shows lemongrass helps reduce swelling and has pain-relieving qualities.
Clary Sage Essential Oil: Relaxes tense muscles easing muscle spasms, particularly effective for easing menstrual cramping.
A randomized, double-blind clinical trial involving 48 women with painful menstruation found that daily application of a cream containing clary sage and other essential oils to the lower abdomen between menstrual cycles significantly reduced the duration of menstrual pain and cramping—from an average of 2.4 days to 1.8 days (Ou et al., 2012).
*We are dedicated to using high-quality, predominantly organic ingredients. Although some ingredients may not be available in organic form, we ensure that our commitment to natural excellence remains unwavering.
* Note: Coconut oil, a key ingredient in our formula, melts at 76°F (24°C). If exposed to temperatures above this, the cream may become more liquid and lose its whipped texture.
Application
Gently massage a small amount of Relief & Recovery onto the affected area in circular motions.
* Pro Tip: For an added anti-inflammatory boost, refrigerate before use. Chilling the cream will amplify the natural cooling sensation of the essential oils while enhancing its pain-relieving effects, providing even greater comfort and relief.
Ideal for acute or chronic pain, inflammation, arthritis, sore muscles, restless legs, and nighttime tension.
Why Natural & Organic Matter
The skin is our largest organ—a dynamic, living barrier that protects, nourishes, and supports the rest of our body.
But what most people forget is that the skin absorbs anything you put on it — good or bad — directly into your bloodstream.
This makes your daily choices in skincare profoundly impactful—not just for your skin, but for your overall health.
Many lotions and creams on the market are loaded with minimally regulated chemicals silently wreaking havoc on your body.
The Hidden Toxins in Skincare: A Wake-Up Call
Parabens: A common preservative that disrupts hormones by mimicking estrogen, and is linked to breast cancer, reproductive issues, and premature aging due to their interference with collagen synthesis (Darbre & Harvey, 2008).
Artificial Fragrances: Often masking a cocktail of up to 4,000 chemicals, these “fragrances” can lead to irritation, hormone imbalance, and even cancer.
Phthalates: Common in beauty products to increase flexibility in plastics, phthalates are linked to hormonal disruptions, birth defects, and fertility problems. They have also been shown to accumulate in the body, increasing toxicity over time (Hauser et al., 2006).
PFAs (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances): Dubbed "forever chemicals," PFAs are used in skincare and cosmetics to increase product spreadability and water resistance. However, PFAs are linked to serious health concerns, including hormone disruption, immune system suppression, and an increased risk of cancer. Studies have also shown that these chemicals persist in the environment and can accumulate in human tissue over time (Whitehead et. al, 2021).
Choosing natural, toxin-free alternatives ensures your skin—and your body—are not burdened by these harmful ingredients. Your skin, overall health, the environment, and the wellness of our future generations thank you.
The Science Behind The Effectiveness Of Essential Oils For Pain Relief
Essential oils (EOs) offer a natural, multi-faceted approach to pain relief by modulating the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems (Girão et al., 2024). They influence pain perception by acting on peripheral and central nervous system pathways, interacting with opioid, cannabinoid, TRP, sodium, potassium, calcium, glutamate, GABA, serotonin, and dopamine receptors. For example, lavender and chamomile can activate the opioid system for pain-relieving effects, while peppermint, eucalyptus, and clove modulate TRP channels involved in nerve signal transmission, muscle contraction, and the body's response to pain, temperature, and other environmental cues.
EOs also regulate inflammation by balancing pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and influence hormonal responses, reducing stress-related hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, and noradrenaline. Oils such as lavender have been shown to calm stress and enhance the body’s natural pain response.
Research shows essential oils have significant analgesic effects for both acute pain (from tissue damage or inflammation, e.g., bruises, sprains, arthritis) and chronic neuropathic pain (from nerve damage or dysfunction, e.g., diabetes, shingles, sciatica), with lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and clove being among the most effective (Girão et al., 2024).
By targeting multiple systems—nervous, immune, and endocrine—essential oils offer a holistic, effective, and safer approach to managing pain of all types.
Reiki-Infused Pain Relief
Reiki is a gentle, energy healing practice that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance, release tension, and promote overall well-being. When a lotion is infused with Reiki during formulation, it carries intention and energetic support that complements its physical properties.
In the case of our Relief & Recovery lotion:
Enhances relaxation: Reiki helps calm the nervous system, which can amplify magnesium’s muscle-relaxing and essential oils’ soothing effects.
Supports energetic alignment: Pain is not only physical but also influenced by stress, emotional tension, and energetic blockages. Reiki infusion can help restore flow and ease discomfort at multiple levels.
Amplifies mind-body benefits: Users often report a greater sense of relief, comfort, and grounding, likely due to the combined physical and energetic support.
In essence, Reiki works with the scientifically supported ingredients, harmonizing the body, mind, and energy field to enhance the overall experience of Relief & Recovery.
Eco-Friendly & Conscious Care
Relief & Recovery is made from high-quality organic ingredients remaining free from toxins, fragrances, preservatives, fillers, and any artificial nonsense — because we believe our bodies deserve only the purest ingredients that nature provides. 🌿 Plus, it’s cruelty-free, because no one should suffer in the name of relief. 🐾
Relief & Recovery is stored in a thick, 4-oz amber glass jar with a sleek, black airtight lid to prevent spills and leaks, harmful chemical leaching from plastics, and protect from UV damage, maintaining the purity and potency of the essential oils.
My Story: Patient Zero, Where it All Began
For as long as I can remember, pain has been my silent shadow. My childhood was filled with what doctors called “growth spurts,” but in reality, I was navigating life with an undiagnosed connective tissue disorder. By the time I learned its name – Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome – my body had already weathered 10+ years of strains, dislocations, unrelenting physical discomfort, and irreversible damage. My joints riddled with arthritis, muscles knotted and overworked from compensating for weak tendons and ligaments, and my spirit weary from battling this invisible pain, and the never-ending battle to heal.
Refusing to let pain define my life, I pushed through, often ignoring my body’s warning signs, frequently pushing too hard. Until I was literally forced to rest, by my third shoulder dislocation in just two weeks. The sharp, agonizing pain and residual inflammation lingered for days on end, hitting me just as I had begun to recover from the last injury. My body was clearly crying out, and I hadn’t been listening. She kept throwing injury after injury my way, forcing me to finally face what I had been ignoring.
It was time to stop pushing and start healing. Drawing on my love for natural remedies and energy medicine, I set out to create the relief I had always wished for. Now, when my body rebels, I reach for Relief & Recovery. Within minutes of application, my pain fades, function and mobility returns, and my mood lifts. The potent anti-inflammatory ingredients work their magic, sending healing energy to the injury and accelerating the recovery process. The difference is undeniable—the day after a dislocation, I’m nearly pain-free with minimal lingering inflammation.
If Relief & Recovery can be part of your healing story too, I’m so grateful to share it with you. 💕
